Clinical Research
McLaren Cancer Institute - Clarkston brings some of the latest cancer fighting medications and treatments to our community through research and collaborative affiliation with McLaren Cancer Institute, a wholly owned subsidiary of McLaren Health Care that facilitates the integration of oncology research with physicians. 

Cancer Conferences
Cancer Specialists, physicians, nurses and other clinical team members involved in the care and treatment of cancer patients meet regularly in tumor site-specific cancer conferences. During these conferences, cancer cases are presented by the patients’ physicians and discussed by multi-disciplinary physician specialists to ensure the very best treatment options are available for the patients. 

Specialty Clinic
The Specialty Clinic, a service provided by McLaren-Oakland, provides access to a team of cancer physician specialists, including urologists, cancer surgeons, and other specialists the keep the patient’s needs in the center of all they do. This patient – focused care ensures that cancer patients have access to multiple specialists, specially trained nurses and a support team that they may need –all in a conveniently located setting.

Medical Oncology
Chemotherapy is administered in a comfortable, outpatient setting that overlooks the Garden of Healing and Renewal. Chemotherapy involves the use of specialized drugs administered to kill cancer cells. The most advanced drugs including immunotherapy and targeted-drug therapy are offered. Chemotherapy is often used in combination with radiation therapy and surgery.  

Oncology Nurses
Nurses that have special oncology education and training provide consultation and intervention, patient education, and nursing care during each cancer patient’s experience.

Orthopedic Oncology
This program, affiliated with McLaren-Macomb, focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of benign (non-cancerous) bone tumors, malignant (cancerous) bone tumors, and soft tissue sarcoma. A team of specialists in surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy is assigned to every case to provide the most aggressive, most comprehensive treatment possible.

Radiation Oncology
Provided through McLaren-Macomb, radiation oncology offers state-of-the-art integrated radiation oncology technology including Intensity Modulation Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Respiratory Gating, and Stereotactic surgery (SRS), CT Simulator with 3D treatment conformal and IMRT planning, High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (HDR), and prostate seed implant program.

PET/CT
Advanced, state-of-the-art technology is used to provide rapid, accurate information to physicians and care team. We offer multi-slice CT, and PET/CT. PET/CT combines the physiologic information from a PET exam with the anatomical information from a CT exam. These images are then fused together to allow physicians to more accurately survey a patient for a number of abnormalities, particularly cancer.

Pathology
Pathology is the study of cells, tissues and body fluids that allow pathologists to diagnose a certain disease or illness. Pathologists are medical doctors that have had additional training to identify diseases in specimens that were collected from the patient. Under a microscope, pathologists are able to identify what illness the person has (if any) based on characteristics they see. Pathologists are often referred to as the "doctor’s doctor."

When a person has a biopsy (a sample of tissue) or submits a blood or urine sample, they are sent to a lab where they are then reviewed by a pathologist. 

Laboratory Patient Service Center
The patient-focused service is conveniently located within the cancer center so that patients can have their blood drawn efficiently prior to or following the physician appointment. This location is convenient for those patients who need to have routine blood tests to help monitor their treatments.

Support Services
Cancer survivors have special needs and interests. Programs designed to offer cancer patients and family members opportunities to share common experiences with others as well as provide education and support in a comfortable environment are offered throughout the year. 

Community Outreach
Provides cancer education, early detection programs, follow-up, and referrals throughout the community.

Oncology Community Education
Provides cancer education, early detection programs, follow-up, and referrals throughout the community. 

Community Events

Sponsorship and involvement in cancer-related community events allows McLaren Cancer Institute – Clarkston and its affiliated physicians and hospitals to give back to the community while raising awareness and funding for research.

Patient Resource Center
The McLaren Cancer Institute-Clarkston encourages patients and family members to visit our Resource Center which provides literature and other materials to use as a reference before, during and after patients receive treatment. The McLaren Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society have partnered together to provide patients, family members and friends literature and other materials from our exclusive lending library that is maintained by volunteers. Patients and visitors are encouraged to make use of this Resource Center before, during and after patients receive treatments. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Ask one of our volunteers, specially trained by the American Cancer Society, for assistance.

Garden of Healing & Renewal
The garden of Healing and Renewal provides a beautiful retreat for patients, care givers, clinicians, and community members to find peace and serenity. The labyrinth, paved wakways, the colorful landscaping and the natural woodlands offer an environment that supports physical, mental, and spiritual healing and renewal.
