Independence Township
The Charter Township of Independence is a growing
residential community located in northern Oakland County, some 45 miles
Northwest of Detroit. Situated in a rural atmosphere, the community is
surrounded by thousands of acres of rolling hills, lakes, woodlands, farms and
quiet country roads and marshes. Though frequently referred to as Clarkston, it is Independence
Township that is the home of DTE Energy Music Theatre and Pine Knob Ski Resort.

Located in the heart of Independence Township, the city is
approximately 1/2 square mile with a population of around 900. Most homes
in the city are single family residences. Some are very old, with great
character.
The picturesque Main Street includes a two block retail and
business area with unique shopping and dining. The hometown feel of the
city can be felt throughout the year, but particularly during any of the holiday
parades and festivals.
